Darned Snow.

I would have just loved to be slapping the metal roofing on there today. I have enough trouble getting around when things are dry though, let alone freshly snowed on. I finally have it ready for the metal. An old buddy of mine was out helping me with things yesterday. I was sawing and he was nailing it all on. Everything went pretty good. It still took a good part of the day though. I did'nt think that strapping this roof would have taken so long to do. I've come to the conlusion, that I am just a bit of coward when it comes to heights, because everyone else seems to get around pretty good up there. I am getting more used to it all the time though.

  2. Wow...it won't be long, buddy, until you can start sleeping in the cabin!

Looks like the help is coming at the right time, doesn't it?

    Thanks for the update!

  5. Thanks Jeanie. The snow is all gone again. For now anyway. Hopefully it and the rain stays away just for a bit now.

  6. Hopefully it won't be too long Jim. I'm sure not going to hold my breath, but it is getting a little closer all the time.

  8. I don't know there Sprouting Acorn. I have thought about a goat or two just to mow the grass. But ya know, milking one sounds like work to me, and I have enough of that going on for a little while yet. lol. Think I'll sit back and think about it for a bit.

  10. Some people get fear of heights and respect of heights confused. Those that respect height for all the dangers associated will most likely never have any serious accidents.

  11. Afraid of heights. Your cabin is not that far off the ground. Besides you are working from the inside. How are you going to find the courage to put the tin on?

I did my roof on my two story house a few years ago. I only fell off once. Pick myself up. Shook everything. Retrieved my ladder in the middle of the road. And, took the rest of the day off. Sometimes you have to just trust your luck.

I am off to Belgium and Northern France with my lady friend (on her dime, bless her). I will think of you in the snow.

  13. Wow, the place is looking good. I don't think you're afraid of heights, you just respect the fact that you're so FAR UP! Be careful and you'll do just fine. Can't wait for more pictures.

  14. Hey, it looks pretty darn high once you're up there! I know how that is and that's a fair steep pitch on that roof. I have always been surprised at the number of construction workers I've met that are afraid of heights. You would think they would not be of all people but...
I think when you get older, like me (ha!), the idea of hitting the ground that hard, regardless of height, just doesn't sound good. lol! just stay tied off!

  15. JEN- Ya the snow did shut me down for the day. Normally I could have done something in it, but going to town just seemed more the thing to do.

BOB- I agree with you 100%. Thats what I have is a respect for heights, I am getting more used to it all the time.

TOSSING PEBBLES-In comparison to other two story houses, ya I guess it's not all that tall, but it is tall enough to do some major damage especially for someone such as myself, who has'nt spent a whole lot time up there. I will get the tin on my friend, there's not really much that I can't do. Have a good trip to Belgium.

TONY-It is getting bigger. Pretty soon it's going to start getting a little fatter with back filling and the decks and all. Thanks Tony.

SHARON-Thanks Sharon. You're perfectly correct my friend. It's pretty hard to get anything accomplished with broken bones.

ANNIE-It does look pretty high when you're up there, but just like anything you do, things seem to get easier the more you do it. I do keep the harness close by, like wrapped around me kinda, but I seem to find myself going without the lanyard being hooked up alot of the time lately though, because it does have a tendancy to get in the way at times. It's always hooked up at any risky situations. though. The ground gets harder with age Annie, I totally agree, but hey, your not really all that old Annie.
