I Am Free

This is just a quick post just as an update. I am unemployed as of Aug 1 2012. I quit my job. I think I'll call it retirement, for now anyway.  I just  like the way that sounds. I really needed to get out of there. I have never worked for a better company, but the nature of the job and the schedule was getting kinda old. I've been there for about 9.5 years. For 9.5 years I went to work everytime they phoned me except maybe 3 or 4 times. I can get called at 7:00 pm or 1:30 am any time for that matter. I don't think Traction missed a day the whole time either, but as you can see in the above photo, she is already trying here paw with a new career choice. Mechanic.

I got most all the drywall mudding done and I am just finishing up on the sanding. There could be some more touch up mudding to do before I'm totally done though. The whole house went actually quite well until I got into the finicky areas like the closets and stairwell. The corners were a bit of a pain , but I just about got it. How can anyone do this for a living? lol. I know it aint for me. Anyway, gotta go for now. I'll be back soon.

  1. Hi Hermit. Long time no see! I would love to be able to quit my job. Your place is looking really nice and I'm glad you'll be able to spend more time at your place. It is hard working full time and trying to build your place up. Don't ask me how I know. Anyhow, just thought I'd drop in and say hello to you and Traction. Lookin' good.

    1. It sure has been a long time Jen. It's good to see you again. It IS hard to work and build at the same time. It takes me a long time to get motivatied and into building, and only a couple phone calls to screw it all up.

  3. I hate drywall, you sand and sand and nothing is ever flat! It's heavy, it breaks..I'd sooner put up plywood and call it rustic. Enjoy your break.

    1. Thanks Frann. I hate drywall too. lol. With a passion. I guess I was looking alot at fire prevention and things like that. All the ceilings are going to be wood though. I already am enjoying the break, but I am still a pretty busy guy.

  6. Congratulations Mark!! I know the feeling and it's great! I hope everything continues to go well for you. Drywall is a pain but it will look really nice. Once you put a little paint on it you'll immediately see all the places you need to touch up! haha! sorry. :)

    1. Thanks Annie. It IS a great feeling, but one thing I noticed is how all of a sudden I automatically started living up to my name real hard. "Frugal" Canadian Hermit. So far things are going just as planned, and that is good. I've heard that before that the paint will bring out the flaws in the drywall. Do you know what Annie, there's going to be lots of flaws and I don't even care. lol.

  7. Wooooooohoooooooooo Mark! Congrats! What a load off, huh? Hope everything works out for you! Ok, so will you be milking a goat soon? Busting sod for that garden (little late in the year, huh?), and all that other cool off-grid stuff? :))
    Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Thanks Lynnanne. It is a load off. The only anxiety I was having is when the phone rang, or wondering when the phone is going to ring. I have a good feeling that everything is going to be A-ok. I think I'll procrastinate on the goat milking thing just for a little bit for now though. lol. It is a little late in year for a garden too, although if I find some time I may do some prepping for next years garden. I am still a pretty busy man at the moment. Life is real good my friend.

  9. Oh, it's NEVER too late for a garden, of sorts. :) How about one of those cold frames? It's for gardening in the winter. A fresh salad in February, how could one resist? lol Yeah, probably best to get the fence and shelter up before the goat moves in. :))

Will you be in before the snow flies?

  10. I think I'll just buy my groceries this winter. It'll be more simple that way. I'm not sure just what a cold frame is, but when it's 40 below, nothing's gonna grow here. lol. For the goat, I think I'll just draw a chalk line. She should know to stay inside hey? I'm really thinking I should be in the house before the snow flies. It's all painted inside now, and I'm moving on to different a different stage of the process.
