Caribou

I sure don't see many of these critters in my travels usually. Actually this is the second one I've ever seen in my life. A caribou. aka: reindeer(I think). I was a fair distance away, so the pictures are'nt the greatest. I put on three pics, but it was just the one animal. Moose, elk, deer and black bear are all pretty commen to see on a weekly or daily basis, but this guy was quite a sight.

It has been very busy with working out in the bush the last two weeks. I don't even need a house as I just seem to live in a peterbilt truck most of the time. I even had to sneak into a camp and borrow the shower one night. We have a big oilfield job in the Grand Cache area and it really keeps us truckers smokin trying to get all the equipment there.
Since my last post, not a whole lot got done on the house. I did manage to get a little more drywall up though. It sure won't take long to finish hanging drywall if I ever get around to it.

  2. Hey, thanks Jeanie. Things have dried up quite a bit. I hav'nt had much time for working on the house because of it. I sure seem to sleep alot of nights in the truck sleeper lately. I'm hoping for rain for you and I Jeanie. I guess the caribou picture is'nt that amazing, but for me to see one around here is quite a find.

  3. Moose, elk, deer and bear … pretty common? DANG! Went out to Montana a year ago. Had hoped to see a moose. No such luck. Saw only one bear and it was on a bison (buffalo) reserve. Did manage to see elk in the wild. Of course, after we left the folks I stayed with had a bear in their yard… figures, right? We have white-tailed deer regularly, but those are the only large animals we have around here… that and the rare bobcat. Coyote are abundant. We also have the rising population of bald eagles… that's always, always a thrill. :) Keep the wildlife photos coming! Enjoy!! (and here's hopin' you get another shower or two in. haha)

  4. Hello Lynnanne. Ya, moose, elk, deer and bear are a pretty common site where I go alot, and even just right around home here. There are said to be alot cougars also, but I've only seen one that I can confirm. I notice that I also see alot of rabbits lately, and with that it seems more coyotes, but for awhile there, I think I was seeing more black bears than coyotes. I have seen over the years the odd grizzly bear, but they are not quite as popular as the blackbear. I try to get some good photos of the wildlife, but sometimes it is tricky while driving a truck. I remember a long time ago when I was hauling logs, I used to see the same grizzly at the same place every morning for about a week. That would have been a good picture, but I don't think digital cameras were invented yet, and I did'nt pack a normal one. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Same here in Indiana…. rabbit populations are "hopping" this year. Don't remember the last time I've seen this many. We have reports, some accompanied with photos, of cougar around here too… I've never been lucky(?) enough to see one of those in the wild. Would love to see all those large animals in my backyard… way too cool. enjoy!

  6. Lynnanne, I think them cougars are almost everywhere, but I think they are just good at not being seen. We supposedly have quite alot of them in my area, but I've only ever seen one in the wild. I'll just bet that they have seen me lots. I'm not real sure if want to see one of those in my yard. The outhouse is a fair bit away from my shack. I do kinda check around usually though.

  7. I saw a badger in the road a week or so ago. I had only seen them on TV..it looked like a hovercraft! No rabbits in Texas as our drought is so bad and coyotes are everywhere looking for lunch.

  8. If I had an outhouse (which I'd love to have!), I'd need a chamber pot for nighttime use. I'd be too much of a scaredy-cat to go out at night with all those critters lurkin' around in the dark. :)

  9. Hi Frann. I hav'nt seen any badgers around here. It's nice to see critters that you don't normally see though is'nt it? Out in the bushes about 100 kilometers away from home, I one time seen a wolverine eating on a road killed moose. That was really something. I believe there are badgers in Alberta, but I think they're a little more in south of me, although, I guess they could be here too. I thought the coyote was more for the roadrunner. Beep, beep.

  10. Lynanne, my outhouse dos'nt to often get used late at night either, unless it is absolutely neccesary. It is combination of fear, commonsense, and just plain lazyness I guess.
